TeamCast provides key DVB-T2 test equipment to
KBS for its UHDTV experiment
TeamCast, the global market leader in advanced solutions for Terrestrial Digital TV and Radio transmission, Mobile TV and satellite Transmission, has significantly contributed to the UHDTV experimental broadcasting transmission in Korea.

It is widely recognized that 4K and/or 8K UHDTV will be the next generation television system within 20 years, providing an unprecedented experience to the TV viewer at home. Four major terrestrial broadcasters supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, and the Korean Regulatory Body KCC have decided to partner for building a real size experimental project. They have chosen DVB-T2 as the transmission system, because it shows the best performances among all existing digital broadcasting standards. A DVB-T2 transmitter has been installed at the Kwanak KBS site close to Seoul. Test equipment has been used for both laboratory and field measurements, with promising results.

TeamCast has provided key test equipment to KBS for the experiment, including a T-MOD T/T2 modulator, an Odyssey signal analyser and a RQX measurement receiver.

"The first phase of this project already produced impressive results about the capability of delivering 4K UHDTV using the latest technologies such as HEVC compression and DVB-T2 transmission. We chose TeamCast as a supplier for our DVB-T2 laboratory setup because of their worldwide recognized expertise in this technology and the good support they provided for this project" says Mr. Yim, senior R&D Engineer at KBS.

"We are proud to contribute to the first worldwide 4K UHDTV terrestrial transmission experiment" says Christophe Trolet, head of the TeamCast Solutions Business Unit. "Since we were involved in DVB-T2 from the first days of the standardization process and we have delivered thousands of T2 modulators last year in the largest DVB-T2 projects, it was a logical and safe choice for KBS to select TeamCast for this key project".

TeamCast provides a complete DVB-T2
test system to the Jeju Techno Park
TeamCast, tthe global market leader in advanced solutions for Terrestrial Digital TV and Radio transmission, Mobile TV and satellite Transmission, has provided a complete test system to the newly opened Jeju Techno Park.

The Jeju Techno Park (JTP) is a newly open technology center specializing on wireless technology, including broadcasting.

JTP provides validation services of consumer TV receivers and set-top-boxes, for the worldwide markets, with the ability to test ATSC, ISDB-T and DVB-T2 compliant products.

One key distinctive point is the location of the Park on the Jeju Island, which allows the technology center to organize technical testing both in laboratory environment and in real outdoor environment, thanks to high power transmitting resources.

TeamCast has supplied a complete DVB-T2 system with a T2 gateway (from T-VIPS), a pair of modulators (MT2), a pair of RF channel emulators (VEGA). The system offers full T2 capabilities (SFN, Multi-PLP, MISO, FEF,...) for laboratory testing and is completed by a T2 transmitter (JinMyung) equipped with a TeamCast MT2 modulator for field testing. TeamCast also provided training about DVB-T2 to the technical staff at JTP.

The JTP was inaugurated on April 25 and 26, 2013, with the presence of officials from JEJU self-governing Province.

"We chose TeamCast as the supplier of our DVB-T2 test system because they were able to deliver a system with the widest range of T2 features, they have a strong expertise and a pretty good recognition worldwide, which is key for our validation activity" says the Jeju Techno Park.

"We were able to do this project thanks to the excellent technical support brought by TeamCast for the preparation and the execution of the project, as well as for training our customer's technical staff" says Jake Bae, Director of JNS Limited, TeamCast's partner in Korea.

"We are proud of our contribution to the establishment of JTP's DVB-T2 validation laboratory" says Gerard Faria, TeamCast's CTO and cochairman of a technical group of FoBTV (Future of Broadcast TV). "It is a clear recognition of our long involvement in Digital Terrestrial Television" he adds. Gérard was invited to make a presentation about the current and future worldwide status of digital TV, including the latest results of the FoBTV technical work he is co-chairing.
